Perm Rod Curls

I wanted to try something different with my hair and since I’m trying my best to stay away from the evil heat styling tools, I thought a good ole’ roller set would give me what I needed. I didn’t want to go out and buy some magnetic rollers or flexi rods for this project so I used some old perm rod that my sister gave to me. They worked just fine! I love the end result and so did everyone at work. I will definitely do this again and recommend it to other natural girls. Here’s how to get the look:

Step 1: Start with clean damp hair. Remove any tangles.

Step 2: Part hair and use a clip to keep the rest of your hair out of the way.

Step 3: Begin rodding your hair in about 1 inch sections. I rodded my hair vertically because that’s how I wanted my curls to fall.

Step 4: Continue rodding until you’ve worked your way around your whole head. Notice, I didn’t follow and certain pattern. I just kept parting a rodding until I ran out. I did this early in the evening so my hair would have more time to air dry, but you can also use a hooded dryer. Cover your hair and sleep tight. (This may be uncomfortable for some, but I didn’t have a problem sleeping on mine.)

Step 5: Take down each rod carefully. Twist in the opposite direction to avoid pulling and tangling  the hair.

Step 6: To minimize frizz, use your favorite oil or shine serum  to separate and fluff your curls. Rock your style and enjoy the compliments!

Look for my follow up post for maintaining this style. Coming soon!
