As I lay on the couch, writing this post, all I can think about is how uncomfortable I am. I’m seven months pregnant with my second child, and I’m already over it. As much as I enjoy the privelidge of carrying my baby boy, I’m ready to have my body and my hormones back to myself. Battling cold after cold (with very limited medication), Braxton Hicks contractions, a never ending emotional rollercoaster, and hot flashes has almost brought me to my breaking point.
However, I still have 10 weeks to go and I’m willing to stick it out to avoid having my baby prematurely. At just 29 weeks, he still has a lot of growing and developing to do. If he decided to come now, he’d spend his first weeks of life in the NICU and require a lot of special care in order to become healthy and strong.
This is reality, not only for pregnancy, but for other things we’re expecting as well. I recently read that anything birthed prematurely risks complications. How true is that? Just like babies are supposed to be carried full term, so are your breakthroughs, your blessings, your miracles. Sometimes, we get so impatient, waiting on God to answer our prayers that we try to answer them ourselves. We take matters into our own hands because we need it to happen NOW, and end up with only a tiny piece of what God wants for us. Imagine being offered $1000 cash today or $1,000,000 cash at the end of the year. Would you be willing to wait if you knew the reward would be greater? Because it is!
Ephesians 3:20 says Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us. The wait can be hard. Trust me. I’ve been there, and I’m here now. But two things that keep me waiting on God are Exceedingly and Abundantly. I’m willing to stick it out through the tough times, the uncomfort, and the contractions to experience the fullness of what God has for me. Are you?
If you’re days, weeks, months or (like me) years into your wait, I want to encourage you to keep praying and trust in God to deliver your breakthrough. I pray that you’ll find the strength to see your blessing through to full term and experience the abundance that’s already prepared for you.
1 Corinthians 2:9
However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived” — the things God has prepared for those who love him
